Other Ways to Give

Matching Gifts

Take your giving to the next level with a matching gift. Many companies offer matching incentives for charitable giving to current employees and retirees.   You could double your support to the Playhouse by seeking a matching gift from your employer.

Donation matches are often dollar to dollar, and some employee match programs even match your volunteer hours!

As each company has a different matching process, we encourage you to check with your employer’s HR or Payroll department to see if they have a matching gift program and how to take advantage of it.

In-Kind Gifts

Non-cash donations are also essential to the Playhouse’s operations. If you have a service or skill to share, please contact us!

In-Kind gifts can also include but are not limited to housing and transportation for visiting guest artists, unique or vintage clothing and costumes, and household items that may be used for props or scenic design. We have limited storage space, so please call before dropping your items off.

If you have questions about making an in-kind gift, please contact Wes Drummond, Executive Director, at 218.733.7551 or email wdrummond@duluthplayhouse.org.

Stock Gifts

You may be able to make a gift to Duluth Playhouse from your publicly-traded stocks. If you’ve held the stock for more than one year, you can make a gift of publicly-traded stock to Duluth Playhouse and avoid paying capital gains tax on the transaction.

Upon your authorization, your broker can make the transaction and will inform Duluth Playhouse.

IRA Charitable Rollover

You may be able to make a gift to Duluth Playhouse from your individual retirement account and take advantage of tax savings.

The current law extends the charitable IRA rollover provision indefinitely with no expiration date, which allows individuals to make qualifying gifts every tax year. If you supported the Playhouse this way last year, you may do so again.

Under the Protecting Americans From Tax Hikes Act of 2015, Americans who meet the guidelines below may give IRA funds to the Playhouse without paying federal income tax. This is known as a rollover or qualified charitable distribution free of federal income tax.

Guidelines

  • You must be 70½ or older.
  • You may distribute any amount up to $100,000 in a calendar year to charity as long as it is completed by December 31 of the year you intend to make the charitable rollover.
  • Your IRA administrator must make the rollover directly to your charity of choice.

Before proceeding, we recommend consulting with your tax advisor to discuss your particular situation, including any impact of your state's tax laws. All IRA charitable rollovers are restricted from receiving benefits.
