CALLBACK DETAILS
A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre lovers for over 30 years.
Set in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row, the story follows meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles upon a strange and exotic plant he names Audrey II, after his coworker crush. The plant, however, isn’t your average potted greenery—it has a craving for human blood and a voice that can’t be ignored.
As Audrey II grows—both in size and in fame—Seymour’s fortunes rise. But so does the body count. As the plant’s true intentions become clear, Seymour is faced with a moral dilemma: How far will he go for success, love, and a taste of fame?
Equal parts horror, comedy, and rock musical, Little Shop of Horrors features a catchy score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, with doo-wop, Motown, and rock-and-roll influences that bring this darkly comic tale to life.
Male-presenting, 20s–30s
A sweet but timid and socially awkward florist’s clerk. Seymour is loyal, endearing, and deeply insecure, but driven by hope and a need for belonging. He becomes an unlikely hero—and eventual antihero—once Audrey II enters his life. Must have strong comedic instincts and emotional depth.
Vocal Range: Tenor (A2–G4)
Female-presenting, 20s–30s
A warm-hearted woman with a tough past. Audrey is sweet, quirky, and vulnerable with a big dream of escaping Skid Row. Despite being caught in an abusive relationship, she holds onto optimism and kindness. She falls for Seymour, seeing his gentle heart. Strong comic timing and vocal expression needed.
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (G#3–D5)
Male-presenting, 50s+
Owner of the failing flower shop. Mushnik is gruff, miserly, and often overwhelmed by the chaos around him. Although self-serving, he acts as a reluctant father figure to Seymour. A strong comedic actor with vocal ability and physicality.
Vocal Range: Baritone (G2–F4)
Male-presenting, 25–40
Audrey’s sadistic, abusive dentist boyfriend. Orin is egotistical, explosive, and darkly hilarious. Requires bold physical comedy and the ability to go over-the-top without losing control. Actor must also play several ensemble roles (e.g., radio host, agent, etc.).
Vocal Range: Baritone (G2–G4)
Any gender, adult
The voice of the carnivorous alien plant. Must be a powerhouse singer with a soulful, rock/R&B voice— funky, fierce, and a little scary. The character is sly, seductive, manipulative, and eventually monstrous. Voice actor is offstage but must command presence.
Vocal Range: Bass/Baritone (G2–G4)
Any gender, any age
Physically operates the plant puppet(s), increasing in size throughout the show. Requires stamina, coordination, and body awareness. Must be able to sync with the voice actor to bring the plant to life.
Female-presenting, teens to 30s
A dynamic Greek-chorus-style trio. These girls are sharp, funny, and street-smart. They provide narration, context, and attitude. Inspired by 1960s girl groups, they must sing tight harmonies and have great chemistry. Strong movers with big energy and charisma.
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto (Ab3–F5)
All genders, various ages
Skid row residents, radio interviewers, agents, customers, passersby, and plant victims. Must be versatile performers with solid vocals and strong character choices. Looking for heightened dynamic energy, comedy and camp without sacrificing authenticity. Ensemble actors will most likely understudy other roles in the production.
