Call for Directors: 2026 Women in Theatre New Play Festival

The Festival is a celebration of women playwrights presenting new short plays and monologues on the NorShor Stage. Performances will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Opportunity Overview: Duluth Playhouse is seeking local women directors to join the festival’s artistic team and help create a cohesive, polished production.

Directors will: 

• Participate in Final Script Selection from the Top 30 Finalists (December 2025)
• Collaborate with the Festival Production Team to ensure a unified festival vision.
• Direct assigned play(s)
• Audition and cast local actors alongside fellow directors 
• Rehearse in April-May on a coordinated schedule
• Be available for Tech Week: June 8-11, 2026
• Receive a stipend, dependent on the number of scripts assigned. 

This is an opportunity for experienced artists passionate about new work and advancing women’s voices. Directors interested in participating are encouraged to join the Reading Committee in December of 2025 to help select the final scripts.

Note: Open to local directors only. The Playhouse cannot provide housing or transportation for out-of-town artists.

• Script Selection: January 2026
• Auditions: March 2026
• Rehearsals: April/May 2026
• Tech Week: June 8-11, 2026
• Performance Night: June 12, 2026
